about

"Record Store" is about what once was and now isn’t. It’s about the loss of things we once took for granted and how we feel more passionately about those things after they stopped existing. As is often the case with The FMs, the song is also about freedom. In this instance it’s about losing our freedoms during the height of the covid pandemic and wondering if we’ll ever get them back again.

lyrics

Let's go to the records store
Let's go to a place we used to have
We can’t look back
It's in the past now

Let's go to a foreign land
Let's break these walls are closing in
It's in my head
It's never ends now

The Sun is my only friend
The winter is a long dead end
I walk in my room again
It's never coming back

We’re still waiting, we’re still waiting for a cure
To Save Us, We’re gonna one day see the end

Let's get on our horses baby
Let's ride till the sun puts us to bed
A girl can dream
Of times we haven’t had

Let's dream of another world
Let's speak so the voiceless can be heard
Can it be done?
I can’t decide now

The Sun is my only friend
The winter is a long dead end
I walk in my room again
It's never coming back

We’re still waiting, we’re still waiting for a cure
To Save Us, We’re gonna one day see the end

about

The FMs New York

The FMs are a bastion of queer music. Formed in 2017 by Matte Namer (they/them) and Frankie Rex (they/he), who met in high school in New York City, the Brooklyn-bred band exudes subversion with style (and of course, sex), rethinking long-standing societal programming, and the rebellion of simply being one’s authentic self all through their politically charged pop missives. ... more
